Our Recruitment Model
We recruited our first group in early 2024. We are constantly receiving worker profiles and adding them to our worker database free of charge. We also conduct semi-open recruitment events in communities where desired crops are grown to find workers with experience.
We designed our recruitment process with four principal goals in mind:
-
Empléate does not charge fees to workers
Empléate communicates that workers should never pay, OR charge others prohibited fees for the opportunity to be in this program
Empléate informs workers that they should contact us immediately if they are become aware that a prohibited fee was charged.
Workers sign an agreement with Empléate for the services we provide. This agreement includes a prohibition that workers wll be charged or will charge fees for recruitment services.
-
Empléate conducts informational meetings to workers who are identified as potential recruits.
These meetings discuss the rights and benefits the workers will enjoy such as housing, safe working conditions, travel reimbursements, and the ability to lodge complaints if desired.
These meetings also discuss the expectations of workers, such as returning home at the end of the contract, rules around alcohol use, and job tasks.
-
Empléate clearly communicates the expectations that the worker will leave the country after the contract ends.
During interview phase, Empléate collects information about past migration history, ties to home community, and personal connections in U.S. that may incentivize abscondment.
-
Empléate finds workers by conducting recruitment in geographic areas where desired crops are grown, or there is a concentration of desired skills.
Additionally, Empléate is always receiving worker applications from candidates who find us via our website or through the Ministry of Labor’s list of registered recruiters.
For new recruits, we call a work reference who can verify the experience the workers have provided.
